A Wild and Surprisingly Fun Ride with Bunny

I do not always watch many independent movies, but I thought I would give Bunny a chance. I am glad I did because I enjoyed the film a lot more than I expected. The only character I recognized was one of the police officers, Officer Cellestino, because he played Samir in Office Space, but the entire cast did a great job. For the first five to ten minutes or so, I was not sure if I was going to like it, but it progressively got better and better.

The movie is basically about Bunny, played by Mo Stark, who is having a birthday but does “something” really bad. On top of that, he ends up killing a man who is coming after him, and now he and some other tenants in his apartment building are trying to dispose of the dead body.

I am not going to share anything that happens in this film because I do not want to spoil it, but it gets wacky and there is a lot I was not expecting. The most notable part is the “bad thing” he did that caused the man to come after him in the first place. I will not reveal what that was, but you will find out about halfway through.

This movie takes place in New York City and almost entirely inside one apartment building. The entire film feels like a real life story because the characters were believable. At times it felt like watching a long Seinfeld episode. These characters clearly were not the smartest New York City has to offer, but that actually helps sell the story even more.

This is not one of those laugh out loud movies where someone falls out of a tree or something, but more of a “did he really just say that” or “what is wrong with these people” kind of funny. The sad part is that there are actually people out there who act like this all the time. Let’s just say you’ll be laughing at all the little things throughout the movie as they pile up more and more.

After it was over, I felt like I had just watched a Kevin Smith film. It had a bit of that Clerks vibe. Maybe that is because the entire movie mostly took place in one location, or maybe it was because some of the characters were simply weed smoking morons. Either way, it was definitely one I enjoyed watching.

From the acting, to the directing, to the cast, music, plot, and everything else, this was very well done. It goes to show that you do not need billions of dollars to create a great film like this. I am hoping to see more from Mo Stark as Bunny and from Ben Jacobson, who directed the film and played Bunny’s friend Dino.

Bunny

Overall Verdict:  If you enjoy watching films like Clerks, you'll probably enjoy this too. Great movies can still be made on smaller budgets.
