Do Not Enter Isn’t Nearly as Bad as People Say

Let me start by saying this – after watching Do Not Enter, it’s nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. Like most people, if I’m unsure about a movie, I’ll check out some reviews first. And honestly, I was shocked by how many people were saying things like “this is the worst movie ever” or “has anyone involved ever even seen a horror movie?” That’s exactly why I don’t trust other people’s reviews. Half the time, they have no idea what they’re talking about. I can say with complete confidence that Do Not Enter is definitely not the worst movie ever made. If anything, all the negativity made me want to watch it even more—and I probably enjoyed it more because I was expecting a complete disaster.

I’m usually skeptical going into movies I’ve never heard of, but the moment I saw Lionsgate pop up, I figured it couldn’t be that bad. I generally like most of their films, with a few exceptions here and there. Now don’t get me wrong—Do Not Enter isn’t great by any means—but it’s far from terrible. I’d watch this 100 times before I’d sit through anything made by The Asylum. If you’ve seen even one of their movies, you know exactly what I mean. Their stuff is almost always a hard pass.

So what’s it about? It follows a group of wannabe social media influencers called “The Creepers” who break into places illegally to film content and try to go viral. After one of their videos barely hits 82 views, they decide to break into an abandoned hotel called The Paragon, which supposedly has millions of dollars hidden inside. Of course, things go sideways when they encounter a supernatural entity hunting anyone inside—and to make matters worse, they run into another group of influencers with their own plans who end up taking them hostage.

I won’t go deeper into the plot to avoid spoilers, but there were definitely things I liked—and a few things that made absolutely no sense.

For starters, the acting really wasn’t that bad. I didn’t recognize any of the cast, but most of them did a decent job for the type of movie this is. Sure, a few performances were rough in certain scenes, but overall, I’ve seen way worse. The music was solid too—it had that eerie horror vibe you’d expect. Same with the production and set design—it wasn’t amazing, but it was good enough that I didn’t feel like turning it off five minutes in.

That said, there were some moments that were just completely unrealistic. The biggest one is when Rick (Jake Manley) gets thrown off a balcony and falls what looks like multiple stories—easily high enough to seriously injure or kill someone. Yet somehow, he’s totally fine. No broken bones, nothing. And this is right after he had his leg caught in a bear trap and could barely walk. It just doesn’t add up.

What makes it even weirder is that another character falls from a similar height later on and doesn’t survive. I won’t say who to avoid spoilers, but it’s hard to ignore how inconsistent that is.

As for the creature – it wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t bad either. It kind of reminded me of the vampire-like characters from American Horror Story: Double Feature. I think they could’ve made it a bit creepier or more memorable, but overall, it did the job.

The biggest issue with the movie, though, is the ending. It feels rushed and incomplete. One minute the creature is (supposedly) killed, and the next thing you know, it cuts to credits with the characters driving somewhere, suddenly having 100 million views and a bag full of money. There’s no explanation of how they escaped or got the money – it just skips everything. It honestly feels like they ran out of budget and had to wrap it up as fast as possible.

Overall, it’s not a great movie, and I get why some people don’t like it—but it’s definitely not as bad as people are claiming. If you’re into movies you’d find on Shudder or IFC, this fits right in. It’s not going to win any awards, and yeah, a lot of people will say it sucks—but there’s definitely an audience that’ll enjoy it.

I wouldn’t go out of your way to watch it, but if it’s Halloween, you’re bored, and it pops up—go ahead and throw it on. It’s on the lower end of Lionsgate films, but it’s still watchable. Just don’t go in expecting anything amazing.

Do Not Enter

Overall Verdict:  Don't listen to all the bad reviews. While Do Not Enter isn't great, it's also not as bad as some people claim. There are plenty of people who will probably enjoy this for what it is.
