I’ve got to say, Good Fortune was a surprisingly enjoyable watch from start to finish. It’s not one of those laugh-a-minute comedies where you’re clutching your stomach the whole time or rolling around on the floor, but it definitely delivers some genuinely funny moments that hit just right.
Now, I’ve never been a huge Aziz Ansari fan, but I’ll give credit where it’s due, he really pulled this one off. Both his direction and performance were solid, and it’s nice to see him in full creative control. Seth Rogen, on the other hand, gives us exactly what we’ve come to expect from a Seth Rogen role. Not that that’s a bad thing, it’s just classic Rogen energy. I honestly couldn’t decide if he was funnier as the rich guy or the broke guy. I think both versions worked equally well.
The real scene-stealer, though, is Keanu Reeves. His turn as the airheaded dum-dum angel absolutely cracked me up. Hearing John Wick himself talking about “chicken nuggies” and spewing absurd lines was pure gold. I’ve gotten so used to seeing him in high-octane action roles that watching him loosen up and have fun in a goofy comedy felt like a breath of fresh air.
Plot-wise, Good Fortune is basically about a guy stuck in dead-end jobs who gets a little divine intervention from an angel trying to prove that his life is worth living. Said angel then swaps the lives of the struggling guy and the wealthy guy – and, of course, chaos follows. Because let’s be real, who’s going to willingly go back to living out of their car after a taste of the good life? It’s got a touch of Freaky Friday energy, minus the body swap and with a lot more profanity.
Now, I did notice IMDb has this movie tagged as “action” and “romance,” which honestly made me laugh more than some of the jokes. Unless you count a little dancing and a fender-bender as “action,” there’s nothing explosive here. And romance? Maybe a sprinkle, but this is definitely more of a comedy-fantasy with a side of light drama.
Another thing I appreciated is that it doesn’t overstay its welcome. At just over an hour and a half, the pacing feels perfect. It moves along briskly without dragging, which is something more comedies should learn from.
Overall, Good Fortune turned out to be one of the better comedies I’ve seen this year. It’s not a nonstop laugh riot, but it’s got charm, a few memorable moments, and a surprisingly wholesome core. If you’re just looking to kick back and forget about life’s nonsense for a bit, this one’s absolutely worth your time. I’m definitely glad I checked it out.

Overall Verdict: If you like Seth Rogen films, you'll probably enjoy this too. Keanu Reeves though is what really makes this movie stand out more.
