Exactly the Anaconda Movie You’d Expect With This Cast

I’ve been looking forward to the new Anaconda movie starring Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Steve Zahn for a while now, and honestly, it turned out to be pretty much exactly what I expected. It’s not a great film by any means, but with a cast this strong, the performances land right where you’d hope they would. The overall vibe feels very Tropic Thunder-esque, blending self-aware humor with a familiar adventure setup.

The story follows four lifelong friends who travel to Brazil to film a reboot of Anaconda. Once there, things obviously don’t go as planned. They encounter not only a very real and very massive anaconda, but also a group of people with their own questionable motives. I won’t get into specifics to avoid spoilers, but the movie balances humor and action well across its 99-minute runtime, keeping things moving without overstaying its welcome.

Paul Rudd is easily the standout here and the main reason the movie works comedically. Jack Black and Steve Zahn both deliver plenty of laughs too, but without Rudd’s timing and delivery, the film wouldn’t be nearly as funny. That said, the supporting cast also pulls their weight and adds some solid comedic moments of their own.

The movie is definitely predictable, with several plot beats you can see coming from a mile away. For a film like this, though, that’s not necessarily a flaw. A lot of the fun comes from watching how the characters react to the chaos around them rather than being surprised by what happens next.

I’ll keep this short because it’s really just meant to be a fun watch, and I don’t want to spoil anything. Is it the funniest movie of the year? No. Is it something you need to rush out and see immediately? Not really. But does it stay entertaining from start to finish? Absolutely.

Fans of the original Anaconda from 1997 will also appreciate the appearances by Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez. That callback might not mean much to everyone, but it was a nice bit of nostalgia for longtime fans.

Overall, this one is worth watching. It’s not award-worthy, but it delivers enough comedy, action, and solid performances to make it an enjoyable weekend movie. The CGI and action scenes are decent – even if some moments with the snake stretch believability – and the acting is exactly what you’d expect from this cast. If you’re a fan of anyone involved, chances are you’ll have a good time with it.

Anaconda 2025

Overall Verdict:  Don't expect to blown away but there's enough humor to make Anaconda worth watching.
