So after watching Bone Lake I felt really duped by the trailer. I was expecting this to be more of a slasher/killer type movie but it really wasn’t. It’s basically about relationship and trust, with a slight slasher at the end.

The movie starts out great with a couple running through the woods, naked for some reason, and get picked off by a crossbow. The one arrow was a direct shot through the dudes nut sack. Ouch! Well then it got rather boring for the next 60-70 minutes. Keep in mind the movie is only an hour and a half. The way the movie started out, it led me to believe that it was going to be a fun slasher movie. I even thought maybe this is like some erotic horror movie with nudity throughout, but it wasn’t that either. The only nudity you’re going to get is the opening scene.

To sum it up, basically a couple rents a house for the weekend, but it ends up being rented by another couple as well. So naturally, both couples decided to stay in the house together. Not likely, but ok. The second couple (Will & Cin) then start manipulating the first couple (Diego & Sage) by making them question their relationship and trust. Now I won’t tell you the twist but you could totally see it coming from a mile away. At the end is when you finally get the horror/slasher part you’ve been waiting for the entire time.

So here’s the messed up part that I just don’t get or maybe I’m just wired differently. There’s a scene when Will steals Diego engagement ring and proposes to Cin right in front of them. If I was Diego, I would have punched Will right in the face, took the ring back, grabbed Sage and left the house never to return. I mean who in the right mind would allow that to happen and not say anything as it’s happening. Grow a pair balls dude before they get shot off by an arrow. Who cares what Will’s sob story is. It was your grandmother’s ring for f*^# sake. Ughhhh…

Now the movie was shot well and the acting was pretty good for what it was, but it really wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I was really hoping for more horror/gore. It wasn’t a movie I regret watching but I can honestly say that I won’t be watching it again anytime soon… or ever for that matter.

I’m sure there will be a lot of mixed feelings about Bone Lake as some will probably really like it, while others will not. I’m right in between.

All I have to say is that if you’re thinking this is going to be a straight up horror or slasher type film, you might want to look elsewhere as this isn’t it. If you’re looking for something to pass the time though, then sure, give it a shot.

Overall Verdict:  It's an OK movie but don't be fooled by the trailer. The only horror/slasher parts are the very beginning and very end.
